Lift Run Perform is an online coaching team for runners and endurance athletes who want to add strength training. Mary Johnson founded it in 2017 after working as a strength coach and running coach in Hamden, CT. The team includes running coaches and two physical therapists. Coaches build custom programs that link weight room work to road running. They aim to help runners get stronger, faster and more resilient.

What Lift helps with

The team helps runners add strength work to their training. The goal is to build strength, prevent injury and run faster.

  • Adding heavy lifting to a running routine
  • Preventing running injuries
  • Returning to running after injury
  • Improving mobility for more efficient running
  • Running faster from 5k to the marathon
  • Training for running before, during and after pregnancy
  • Building mental skills for racing

Who Lift works with

The team coaches runners and endurance athletes at all levels. Clients range from beginners training for a 5k to runners chasing sub-3 marathons. Some coaches focus on postpartum and pregnant athletes. Many clients are runners who have avoided the weight room or have dealt with repeat injuries.

How Lift works

Each athlete gets customized programming that covers the weight room and the roads. Plans are individualized to the runner's strengths and weaknesses, including areas with repeat injuries. The founder favors slow progression and constant communication between coach and athlete. Group coaching is also offered.
