The typical coach charges $125 an hour. Across 10,363 coaches who publish an hourly rate, the middle half charge $85 to $199 an hour. Price depends on the type of coach and the country: Executive coaches have the highest typical rate ($188 an hour), while admissions consultants on coaching marketplaces have the lowest ($96 an hour).

These are hourly rates for all 10,363 coaches in our index who publish one on a public directory profile.

If you are shopping, the "typical" row is the best single number to use. The average is less useful because a small number of very high rates lift it above what most people pay.

How much do coaches charge by type?

This is the side-by-side view of every coach type we track. A coach who lists more than one specialty (for example, both career and life coaching) counts in each type they list, so the rows overlap.

Three groups stand out. Coaches who work with leaders and business owners (executive, leadership, business) sit at the top, with typical rates of $148 to $188. Career coaches sit in the middle at $125. Personal coaches (life, relationship, dating, fitness, nutrition) cluster between $100 and $115. Interview and admissions rates come mostly from coaching marketplaces, where coaches post one set hourly price; their typical rates are low, but the top 10% still charge $259 or more.

Coaching prices by country

Location shifts the price a lot.

The United States ($138) and the United Kingdom ($136) sit within $2 of each other at the typical rate. Canada ($110) is $28 below the US, and Australia ($129) is $9 below. Singapore runs $42 an hour above the US. South Africa's typical rate of $90 is roughly two thirds of the US figure.

Average coaching session price: Our data vs the ICF survey

The International Coaching Federation's 2025 Global Coaching Study found that active coaches charge an average of $234 for a one-hour session. Our average is $160 and our median is $125. The gap has a likely reason. The ICF study drew 10,035 valid responses, and 80% came from ICF members. In our data, coaches who list an ICF credential charge more than coaches who do not. PCC holders, for example, average $211 an hour, much closer to the ICF figure.

What drives the price

• Coach type. The typical executive coach charges $188 an hour, while the typical relationship coach charges $110.
• Credentials. Coaches with no credential listed have a typical rate of $125. Coaches with the ICF's PCC level have a typical rate of $200. By our count, only about 5% of coaches in our data list an ICF credential or mention the ICF.
• Country. Singapore ($180) runs highest, followed by the US ($138) and the UK ($136). South Africa ($90) runs lowest.
• How the rate is posted. On coaching marketplaces, coaches almost always post one fixed hourly price. On coaching directories, 88% of coaches post a range. The typical posted range runs from $100 at the low end to $150 at the high end.
• The top end is wide. The top 10% of coaches charge $300 or more, and the top 10% of executive coaches charge $406 or more. A high price alone does not tell you a coach is better.

How to use these numbers

To set a budget, multiply the typical rate for your coach type by the number of sessions you expect. Six one-hour sessions at the overall typical rate of $125 would come to an estimated $750. Across the middle half of rates ($85 to $199), the same six sessions would run an estimated $510 to $1,194. For six sessions with a typical executive coach ($188), the estimate rises to $1,128.

Coaching is not always worth that money. If you need help with a mental health issue, see a licensed therapist instead. If you only need one skill, like a résumé review or a mock interview, one session may be enough. Coaching tends to pay off when you have a clear goal and will do the work between sessions.

We compared 10,363 coaches who post an hourly rate on a public directory profile, plus coaches on coaching marketplaces for the interview and admissions rows. Each number is what a coach lists for one hour, not what a client paid in the end.
