Susmita grew up in Kolkata, India. She earned graduate degrees in Geography and Urban-Regional Planning from the University of Calcutta (1985) and the University of Arizona (1987). She worked as a city planner in Kentucky until she resigned in January 1993. She then spent years in contemplative practice. She began offering personal growth workshops in 2004. She is an ordained lay Buddhist teacher (2016), a certified Life and Dream Builder Coach, and author of 'Awakening with Ease' (2024).
