Michelle earned a biology degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1989 and a DVM with honors from The Ohio State University in 1993. She did a medical and surgical equine internship, then worked in ambulatory equine practice and small animal general practice in Connecticut. In 2006 she bought Shoreline Animal Hospital as co-owner and later served as co-medical director. She sold the practice in 2020. She reviewed applicant files for Ohio State veterinary admissions from 2017 to 2022 and volunteered as an interviewer in 2020 and 2023.
