Marie starts with an initial evaluation of the student's target school, schedule, prior prep and scores, and math skill. She uses that to plan the first lessons and assign homework. Each student works on 1 to 3 concepts at a time until they are at least partly mastered. She assigns mock tests every few lessons to find weak spots. Her cycle is Evaluate, Instruct, Practice, Assess.
Background and qualifications
Marie began teaching test prep for the SAT, ACT and LSAT in her first year of law school. She then taught GMAT, GRE, SAT and ACT classes full-time at Kaplan. In 2006 she started her own tutoring business while earning an MA in Math Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. From 2006 to 2016 she tutored on the side and worked as a full-time high school and college math teacher. Since 2016 she has tutored GMAT and GRE online full-time. She also holds an English Literature degree from Georgetown University.
