How Malesia works
Malesia splits her advising into three programs by grade level. Early-Start for grades 7 and 8 covers curriculum, activities, summer enrichment and high school options. Kick-Start for grades 9 and 10 covers course choices, tutor referrals, resumes, summer program applications, internships and job-shadowing. On-Track for grades 11 and 12 covers testing and application timelines, college research, self-assessment, showing credentials and essay revision.
Background and qualifications
Malesia spent 20 years in sales and marketing at IBM. She then became a full-time mom and community volunteer. For over 16 years she volunteered at St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA. She also recruited for her alma mater, Spelman College, at local college fairs. In 2014 she chaired the Junior Summer Internship Program at St. Catherine's School, and she began college consulting by mentoring two students for the QuestBridge program. She finished the UCSD college counseling certificate in 2016 and the TC College Advising Program at Teachers College, Columbia University in 2019.
