Jill Hall is an independent college consultant who helps students find the right colleges and apply to them. She started in 2016 after working as a college advisor at a college-prep public high school. Before that, she spent 25 years in marketing, public relations and market research. How Jill works
Jill starts by asking students what they want in a college, which criteria matter most, where they do well, and what their family can afford. Together they build a college list, explore it, and adjust it until the student has a final list. She works through the summer on applications and essays so students can enjoy senior year. After decisions come in, she helps students weigh academic and financial fit and talks with them about the transition to college.
Background and qualifications
Jill spent 10 years as a college advisor at a college-prep public high school. She began as a parent volunteer and became the primary college process and application advisor from 2011 to 2016. In Fall 2016 she left to become an independent college consultant offering one-on-one college search and application advice. Before that, she worked 25 years in marketing, public relations and market research. She has chaired the Riverdale School Foundation board and the Marylhurst Early Childhood Education board, and twice chaired the OMSI annual Gala. She presented on the move from high school to college to the Portland Area College Counselor Consortium in 2018. In 2021 she joined the Board of Directors at Willamette University.
