He later served as Acting Executive Director of the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women and as Executive Director of Voice for Children. Denice Hinden grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He planned to become a lawyer until midway through college, when he chose a career leading nonprofits. He interned with the Urban League of Harrisburg. After college he moved to Miami and started as an executive assistant at Switchboard of Miami. There he built grant writing skills and helped secure funding for one of the nation's first transitional housing programs for young adults aging out of foster care. He later led the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women on an acting basis. He also served as Executive Director of Voice for Children and worked at the City of Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority, where he oversaw development of a sports arena.
