UMatch uses a four-phase, student-driven approach. It combines self-discovery activities, goal setting, focused research, and essay guidance. Ashley builds the first college list after getting to know the student, then the student refines it through research. Essay work starts with brainstorming. She does not write any part of an essay. Students get a web-based portal with document storage, direct messaging, and a calendar of testing and application dates.

Ashley has a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University and a law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law. She completed the College Counseling Certificate Program at UC San Diego. She is an associate member of IECA and a member of NACAC and PNACAC. She is Co-Director of College Counseling at Minds Matter Seattle.
