Background and qualifications
Afton holds a bachelor's degree in English and has worked as a freelance editor since June 2004. That work included reviewing essays for publishing and coaching college admission essays. Some of those essays led to admission at the University of Oxford, UC Santa Cruz and San Diego State University. Since August 2023, Afton has coached high school seniors one on one as an admissions coach, including work at College Essay Builder. Afton also lived in Qatar for eight years.
